Technological advancements, design trends, and user experience are all factors that influence the lifespan of a website. Should you systematically redo your website? Not necessarily; there are several solutions you can implement to extend the longevity of your website.
Conduct a technical audit with your web partner to evaluate the overall technical performance of your site. This will highlight technical and security flaws, CMS and plugin updates, and SEO improvements.
Some technical improvements require little investment but can have a real impact on the overall performance and loading speed of your site.
Analyze the structure of the site and its content. List what works and what doesn’t in terms of pages or features, and note your new needs to integrate them into this new version of your site.
Analyze the behavior of your existing visitors, their paths on the site, and their profiles to verify if you are effectively reaching your target audience or if actions are needed to reach and convert them by meeting their needs.
If you have already implemented tracking tools to analyze your actions, these will be invaluable during this step.
Inventory your internal resources. What tools do you have, and how can they be interconnected to better serve your overall communication?
For example, if you have an internal product catalog with descriptions, images, specifications, etc., an API connection can link this catalog to your website to retrieve and display all this information. This way, there’s no need to manually add them to your CMS.
Another example: Implementing a booking module on your site. Here too, an API connection can push all the collected information into an internal CRM tool for further processing.

A/B testing tools allow you to temporarily test one or more variations of layouts and small features to determine which version has the best return before permanently applying it to your site.
This is a good alternative if you’re unsure about the impact of a change on your conversions.
For example, if your website has a form for downloading information, you can test a version with fewer fields to see if a shorter form encourages more engagement.
Even though the GDPR regulation on personal data protection came into effect in 2018, your website might not be compliant with this regulation.
If this is the case, you need to research the various consent platforms available to choose one that suits your needs. Showing your users that you respect their privacy will only increase their trust in your website.
Here, we return to the point on data analysis mentioned earlier. If you don’t yet have a tracking tool to monitor your site’s data, you should plan to implement one.
It’s important to measure every action to continually adapt your content, structure, and features to meet the needs of your target audience and convert them.
For example, measure the number of brochure downloads, clicks on your phone number, or the percentage of your blog articles that users read to identify the content that truly interests them.
We have listed some improvement suggestions in this article that provide a solid foundation to rethink and enhance your site without having to completely redo a new website.
